Before starting the spray coloring process, the final design pattern must be determined. This can be done through computer graphics or hand drawing. Once the design is complete, relevant materials and equipment are prepared, including spray paints or pigments, spray guns, compressed air devices, etc.
To ensure strong adhesion and even color coverage, the glass surface needs to be pretreated. The main steps include:
Cleaning: Remove dust, and impurities from the glass surface using detergents, alcohol, or special cleaning solutions.
Light sanding (optional): Slightly sand the surface to improve adhesion.
Drying: Ensure the surface is completely dry, free of water and contaminants.
The pigments or color pastes used in spray coloring are typically specially formulated. They can be solvent-based, latex-based, or powder-based. Depending on the requirements, additives such as UV inhibitors or light stabilizers may be included to ensure long-lasting color retention.
Spraying operation: Workers load the pigment into the spray gun and apply it according to the pre-designed pattern. During spraying, control parameters such as nozzle-to-glass distance, spray speed, and pressure are crucial for achieving uniform color coverage.
Multiple coatings (optional): For thicker layers or special effects, multiple spray passes may be applied, with sufficient drying between coats.
After spray coloring, the surface typically needs to be heated or air-dried to cure the pigment firmly onto the glass. The specific temperature and duration depend on the type of pigment:
Natural drying: Air drying at room temperature.
Heat curing: Using an oven to heat the glass, ensuring the pigment is fully hardened.
To provide additional protection, a layer of transparent varnish or protective film can be applied over the spray-coated surface, enhancing wear resistance and UV protection.
Finally, the finished product undergoes quality inspection to check for evenness of color and adhesion. After passing quality standards, it is packaged and prepared for shipment.
Glass spray coloring is a highly technical process that combines design, materials, and process control to produce rich and colorful visual effects. It not only beautifies the glass surface but also adds functionalities such as UV protection and scratch resistance.
